The Spin Cycle

The Potter and The Clay

Jeremiah 18:1-4

1 The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

2 Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.

3 Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.

4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

◦That’s the tough part of being a follower of Christ! It’s about the relationship. We want to become more like Him.

◦It’s the combination of the spinning and the touch that forms the vessel!

◦The touch without the touch would leave a hole!

◦We are shaped in the spin. That’s when God is getting ready to make us in that spinning environment.

◦He wants to make us more like Him!

◦Then when you become more like Him you don’t want those things!

◦We like to do things when it’s calm.

◦But God takes the risk in the crisis…like He purposely picks the worst time in the world to do the most mighty things. HE DOES IT WHEN ITS A CHAOTIC SPIN CYCLE!

◦It’s not when we try to get things together! We serve a God that takes us right where we are at..in that spin cycle!

◦God is working something much greater than you can imagine.

John 11:3

3 Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.

(Your dear friend is sick!)

◦Four days have passed and Jesus then shows up!

◦They believed that first three days in a death a spirit can return, so Jesus intentionally waits to day four!

◦Their world is spinning! When Jesus shows up, they are upset!

◦First thing Mary and Martha say…”if you would have been here my brother would not have died!”

✓In those moments we think God is so far from us! In the spin cycle is when God separates the true believers to those that are playing games!

✓If you’re going to be a committed follower of Christ then there has to be a surrender!

✓Are you willing to surrender all 100% to Him? “I Surrender All!”

◦Sometimes surrendering about me is saying it’s not about me, it’s about surrendering control!

✓Surrender is what I had in mind how I wanted the story to go! Surrender of YOUR PLAN, AGENDA, HOW I DO THINGS!

◦God is FORMING you! Allowing you to go through the spin cycle of life!

◦Is it my agenda, my life, my job, my plan? Guide me Direct me Lead me! The spin cycle is getting your attention.

Luke 5:28 

28 And he left all, rose up, and followed him.

29 And Levi made him a great feast in his own house: and there was a great company of publicans and of others that sat down with them.

◦It’s not my will but Yours be done!

◦He has not left you, He’s making you again!

✓Just don’t jump off the potters wheel! He’s doing something! We have that free will!
